I met up with this wonderful family on Jekyll Island to do their portraits. This session was very important to this family because this dad was being deployed very soon after this session. I really enjoyed this family.. but most of all I enjoyed this wonderful little boy. He was so personable and fun. He told me all sorts of stories and about all the girlfriends he had.. So cute!

50th Wedding Anniversary Celebration – {Jekyll Island, GA Photographer}

Posted on August 15, 2010, under Family, Jekyll Island.

I met up with this loving family at the Jekyll Island Club Hotel to document the 50th wedding anniversary of their parents!  The entire family was so fun and easy going.  A lot like my own family I think.   This couple celebrating their anniversary was also such a hoot.   Singling songs and telling jokes.. I had such a great time with them.

Fun Family from up North – {St. Simons Island and Jekyll Island, GA Photographer}

Posted on June 23, 2010, under Family, Jekyll Island, St Simons Island.

There are some people you meet in life that almost instantly you connect with them. This is how I felt when I met this family. They were so fun to be around, I could spend the entire week with them… actually I did do a two day session with them. Well not the entire two days.. we scheduled a St Simons beach session for day one, then we met again the next day on Jekyll Island Club to do a garden/park session.
They were vacationing in our area all way the from Illinois celebrating their parents 50th anniversary. Congratulations of 50 years! Oh and can you believe that this family has never had professional portraits done? Wow! What a wonderful gift to give their parents as well as a huge honor for me to be the one to capture these family portraits! Thank you so much guys! I had a great time with you all!

I cracked up over this photo… Siblings are so funny!

Jekyll Island Driftwood Beach and Family – {Jekyll Island Photographer}

Posted on June 16, 2010, under Beach Photography, Family, Jekyll Island.

I hate to sound like a broken record.. but its true.. I love Jekyll Island. Much of the island is left at its natural state. The entire island is covered with flowers, shrubs, palms, wildlife and huge oaks draping with flowing Spanish moss. Just breath taking. There is just so much on this small island to do and perfect for all photo shoots. Family, beach session, babies, couples, wedding.. can’t forget that… Its perfect. If you have never been to Jekyll…. make a trip there.. You will not regret it.
I met this family on Jekyll Island for their family portraits. They wanted to start their Summer with a fun vacation in our beautiful Golden Isles. We all headed to Driftwood beach to do their session, which ended up being a perfect location for this family full of boys!
A little bit about Driftwood… its like nothing you have seen before. This beach has been on Discovery, Travel Channel and I think Good Morning America. When people see it for the first time.. they say, “WOW”! It gets its name from the abundance of driftwood scattered throughout the beach. It looks like someone delicately placed them all around like sculptures of nature. You got to check it out!
If you would like to schedule a Family Beach session on Jekyll or even St Simons Island, please give me a call at (912) 230-9112 or email me at info@jreevesphotography.com

Total Cuteness on Jekyll Island – {Brunswick, GA Photographer}

Posted on June 14, 2010, under Family, Infants and Newborns, Jekyll Island.

What can I say.. Im behind on blog posts “again” I do post regularly on the Jeannie Reeves Photography facebook page. You can always find me there posting new photos from recent sessions. http://www.facebook.com/jeanniereevesphotography
But, let me just say that I LOVE to be busy.. busy busy busy.. that is how the summers are around here… Most days it seems like Im running around with no direction, but actually Im in heaven. The trouble is if Im sitting around doing nothing I get depressed easy. I think that runs in my family. LOL

On to this blog post:
I met up with this little doll and her family on Jekyll Island for their session. It had been raining the day before and also earlier that morning. I had to reassure the mom that it would be fine, and we were still on for our session unless it was really down pouring.. but also I added (while knocking on wood) that I am pretty lucky when it comes to weather and sessions… she laughed, due to the fact that it was raining pretty good during our conversation. Low and behold, we get to the location and no rain! I don’t know what it is.. but this has happened to me more than a handful of times. This is the only reason why I don’t cancel my sessions due to rain at this time. That and I secretly would love to have a fun photoshoot in some nice rain.. nothing heavy, but good drops falling. Probably not a baby, but a fun family running in the rain with bright colored umbrellas would be fun. Don’t you think?

A few tips for your Beach Session -{Jekyll and St Simons Island Beach Photographer}

Posted on April 6, 2010, under Jekyll Island.

Below are a few tips to creating that “Perfect” beach photo session…

# 1 - Colors. Most families choose to have everyone in the group wearing coordinating colors that have a relaxed, casual look. This is usually the best way to go because emphasis should be on the people in the photos, not the clothing. Great color choices for these sessions are normally white or pastel tops and khaki/denim bottoms.

# 2 - Style. Another great idea would be to add some pizzazz simply by having the women and/or girls of the group wear free-flowing white dresses. This takes candid pictures to another level altogether. Beach style hats add that last minute styling cue for the girls as well. For the boys, keep it simple by having them wear denim coveralls without the shirt underneath. Men of the group should then go with the traditional white shirts and khaki/denim bottoms!

# 3 - Choices. It’s not uncommon to have second thoughts about a particular item of clothing. Avoid sleeveless tops, shorts and skirts. Capri’s and long pants are usually the best choice for bottoms and short/long sleeve shirts or blouses for tops. Keep in mind that this is a beach session, long sleeves may not be desirable and may make some members of the group uncomfortable due to the heat.

# 4 – Go Barefoot! Especially for summer portraits. Who wears shoes to the beach anyway? This creates the most natural, relaxed and fun images of all plus I highly recommend it!

# 5 - Makeup. Keep the makeup toned down. A more natural appearance looks better. Emphasizing the eyes and lips are fine but don’t over do it. A bad sunburn or over done tan is not the best look either although a smooth and even tan does make a warm image.

# 6- Hair products. Although you may not use these items on a regular basis it may be a good idea to use hair spray, gel or any other products to keep hair at bay. Beach sessions normally involve a slight breeze or gusts of wind. To keep hands and arms from constantly moving hair out of the face, I recommend using these products. Another alternative would be scrunchies or hair bands. Bring these items along with you as well. You may need or want it.

# 7 – Personality. Being a mother myself, I know how difficult it is to catch great portraits of children especially younger ones. Children may be uncomfortable or just plain ansy about being in front of the camera. So to ease them through the process have them pick out their favorite beach toy and bring it with them. Being able to hold on to it may be the only way we can get them to sit still for a shot and we may catch a wonderful image while they hold it. Also make sure that they are well-rested and fed before you arrive. If you are bringing older children, add some personality by adding a skim or surf board to the mix!

AND LAST BUT CERTAINLY NOT LEAST…

# 8 – RELAX. Keep it simple and have fun! Isn’t this what vacationing is about?

So there you have it! Simple and easy ways to bring out the best images for a beach session.

Babies and Kids on Jekyll Island – {Jekyll Island, Photographer}

Posted on March 16, 2010, under Family, Jekyll Island.

I met up with these little guys about 2 weeks ago for a fun portrait session on Jekyll Island. The grounds surrounding the Jekyll Island Club hotel are my favorite place to do photo sessions or just to walk around. It was a tad chilly on this day, or at least in the shade, we were so happy to have the sun to warm us up in.
These boys are cousins… The oldest boy was so very happy and playful. I really enjoyed hanging out with him. Capturing those wonderful grins and smiles warms my heart. The baby also had a very precious smile and the cutest part was he smiled the best when his mom sang to him… My kids have the opposite affect when I sing. LOL And while we all love smiley babies and kids.. the crying baby photo is just so hard not to love. What do you think?

Look at the cute smile

This one cracks me up..  The boy on the left is not too sure of his cousins driving skills.. He looks worried.

Look how happy this kid is.. The car is the Red Car in front of Indian Mound Cottage.

I just can’t help but to love this one.  He has two perfectly placed tears even.

This is what he spent most of his time doing that day, running after me and smiling.

Such a beautiful baby!

I love it when you can see little guys pants and how small their legs are. Adorable!

Playing in the grass… fun times!

Remember doing this when you were younger.  I would love to do this now..

OMG this kids cracks me up!
I was shooting the baby, when I noticed in the background he was all cheesin and waving.. I could not help but to capture this moment!

Family Portraiture Seminar – {Golden Isles Portrait Photographer}

Posted on February 5, 2010, under Everything, Family, Jekyll Island.

I had the pleasure attending Sam Puc’s Family Seminar. It was amazing! I came out so inspired. She is incredibly passionate and also emotional towards the few charities that she feels so strongly about. The first being NILMDTS that I am a member of.
The seminar covered family portraiture ranging from posing, marketing ideas, shooting techniques, marketing strategies and gear to extensive marketing plans. I would say that the marketing was the big part of this years seminar. She gave break down month by month marketing ideas and also seasonal marketing ideas. Not only for the big guys with big studios but also great ideas for those that shoot on location only or in a small bedroom studio. :)
She also did a live family session on stage, which included husband and wife and two small boys about the age of my small boys. (3 and 4) They were a riot for sure. What was nice about watching her work, was how she handled the chaos. You ealize that even she, has the same obstacles that the rest of us photographers have. :)
I will try to attend the other yearly seminars. She stated there will be 8 more, but not all conducted by her. Next year will be on passion or weddings I guess. That should be fun as well.
